The check-up appointment coincides with a cleaning appointment. Check-up appointments are usually one year apart but timing can vary depending on home care and risk factors for decay and gum disease. The appointment includes new bitewing x-rays and an exam by the doctor.
Your check-up exam will include:
Examination of diagnostic x-rays (radiographs): Essential for detection of decay, tumors, cysts, and bone loss.X-rays also help determine tooth and root positions.
Oral cancer screening: Check the face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, cheek tissues, and gums for any signs of oral cancer.
Periodontal evaluation: Measuring the gums around the teeth and assessing the level of inflamation and/or infection of the gums.
Oral hygiene recommendations: Review and recommend oral hygiene aids as needed. (Electric toothbrushes, special periodontal brushes, fluorides, rinses, etc.)
The check-up appointment helps to minimize treatment costs and maintain maximum health.
